1978 REPORT
UFO RESEARCH
FAR NORTH QUEENSLAND

Since the beginning of the year the organization has received a steady flow of reports from the public. In fact by the end of October our organization had investigated well over double the number of reports we had received in 1977. Like many other "Groups" in Australia, the screening of the film "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" did not seem to have any effect on the number or type of reports received.

A overall look at the reports shows that a total of 38 were received, of these (at time of printing) one was still under investigation, and all reports were of "Nocturnal" objects. The percentage of "Unidentifieds" out of the total number of reports is 63% (ie 24 reports) as opposed to 37% "Identified" or "Possibly Identified" (see below).

TOTAL REPORTS - 38
BREAKDOWN OF UFO REPORTS
IDENTIFIED - 6
NOCTURNAL LIGHTS - 15
POS. IDENT/UFO - 7
CE-1 - 6
UNIDENTIFIED - 24
CE-2 - 2
STILL UNDER INVEST - 1
CE-3 (1969) - 1

Below is a breakdown of the 24 unidentified reports:

COLOUR:
SHAPES REPORTED:
WHITE - 9
ROUND or SPHERCIAL - 8
ORANGE - 5
ELLIPTICAL or OVAL - 4
GREEN-BLUE - 3
POINT SOURCE OF LIGHT - 4
SILVER - 3
HEMISPHERICAL - 3
BLACK - 2
RECTANGULAR - 2
RED - 1
CIGAR - 2
YELLOW - 1
CROSS - 1

Note: Some objects contained several colours, the most predominate is shown.

Note: Those reports classed possible identified/unidentified indicate no strong evidence could be found to conclusively determine whether the report was something quite mundane or truly "unidentified".
