John is a keen amateur astronomer and he and a friend were camping approx 250km East/South/East of Perth near Shackleton when he spotted a 45 degree triangular formation of star like objects all with the intensity and brightness of Sirius. The three star like objects were perfectly still and about 15 degrees above the horizon before just fading out over a period of one or two minutes. As an amateur astronomer he knew there were no stars in that area of the sky. John continued to watch for a further 45 minutes on the cloudless night but they did not re appear. The witness, Eddy, was in Bateman driving west-north-west when he noticed five very bright red spheres in a V-formation vertically aligned with the apex pointing to the ground. The top light of the right-hand side of the V crossed over to the left, and the whole formation dropped towards the ground and simply disappeared. Brian Richards ASPR/UFORUM

For twenty minutes Dave noticed small streaks or flashes of light going east-west. He was looking south. Ten minutes after the last flash, an oval object appeared from the east, lit up by two very bright lights at each end. It appeared for about two seconds before flying off at great speed to the west. No sound was heard. Brian Richards ASPR/UFORUM

Mr P only left his mobile number on the 5th of October callin. Each time I tried to ring the mobile, on at least 4 occasions, the phone was either turned off or rang out. Then on the 9th of October he left 4 messages and two landline numbers. I contacted Di to see if our Nowra rep, Brad Mildern was on line, she informed me Brad had left the area. I rang Mr P tonight and he told me he was talking to other people and had nothing to say to me. I told him that was great and wished him goodnight. Doug Moffett AUFORN NSW

Dezie and Dave live across from the ocean, they noticed a bright star like object over the ocean. It twinkled red then blue and was viewed from 10.00pm till 2.00am. After 1 hour a second and third light was noticed to the right and the left of the original sighting. The object was viewed thru binoculars but did not reveal form. The object on the right was higher than the horizon whilst the object on the left was level with the horizon. A passenger plane climbed to the height of one of the objects before levelling off. The police station at Foster said they had received similar reports but said they were flares. I suspect Venus, Jupiter and a bright star. I have asked Dezie to check that part of the sky at the same time over the next couple of nights and also to get accurate readings of degrees above horizon and directions. I will then check whether we have culprits in that area at that time. The objects only appeared to move slightly, in line with possible scintillation effects. The objects were stationary when noticed and the couple went to bed with the objects in roughly the same position at that time. Dezie will ring me in the next few nights to confirm if the lights are in the same position. Doug Moffett AUFORN NSW

At approx 8pm Saturday the 14th October, Jill was outside just watching the stars when she noticed a very bright light to the North North West. She thought it was either a planes headlight or a very bright star. Jill went inside to get a pair of binoculars and her husband. When seen thru the binoculars the light appeared like a philligree gold ball with black holes pulsing in and out of the orb. The light appeared to have definite form and edge and a shape something like a jellyfish. The light changed to crimson and changed shape as it slowly got smaller and appeared to move slightly to the left as it disappeared at approx 9.00pm. During the course of the sighting two planes past in front of the light. Just before the light disappeared a beam seemed to go upwards from the object. Jill was not aware of any cloud build up that may have obscured the object.

Looking toward the west at approx 8.20pm Monday 16th I noticed a very bright stationary light, which was likely to be the culprit. After checking with Maria Hunt from the Werrington Observatory it was confirmed that Venus was in the West setting between 8pm and 9pm. Also due to Venus being bright and low scintillation was high and this was magnified by the chromatic abberation caused by the affect on light spectrums created by the binoculars. The odd shape is due to Venus never being ‘full’, as it varies between a quarter crescent and three quarter phase, when Venus is full it on the other side of the sun to the Earth and is unable to be seen. Finally, due the slightly eccentric path of the planets they tend to dip to the left before setting.

PS: Mir space station is about at the moment with a brightness similar to Venus taking 3 to 4 minutes to cross the horizon. Doug Moffett AUFORN NSW

Seems this one was not a UFO as such. Two brothers Steven and Terry had been playing golf. Returning home along the Wanneroo Road (North of Perth). Terry heard a whoooshing sound . Turned round. Saw a huge white ball of light travelling from East to West the size of a full moon. The meteor or whatever it was, suddenly broke into a thousand pieces which showered down. It seems no reports of this object were made by the media. Brian Richards ASPR/UFORUM

?. 10.2000 MURRAY MOUTH GOOLWA BEACH (SA) 19:21hrs
Source: AUFORN ONLINE UFO Report Form
Witness: Stephen
Number of witnesses present: 1
Sighting Duration: 1 minute or less
Occupations: Truck Driver

Observation: I was fishing early in the morning around 4.30 am after a 12 hour day, at the Murray River Mouth, Goolwa Beach South Australia. I was alone, and nobody else was in the area, as I would have seen them as I drove up the beach to the Murray mouth, and I had been there for about 1 and a half hours, fishing, and was standing on the shoreline at the edge of the Murray river, where it comes out to the ocean, I was looking out to sea, it was a slightly overcast evening.

Suddenly, a very very bright light came thought he clouds, like a search light, and shone the light from left to right a few times, and then went out as quick as it came on, like a light globe.

There had been no aircraft noise, no helicopter noise, coming or going, the only noise I had heard all night was the crashing of the waves, on the beach, and it was a reasonably calm evening, not a lot of wind. The hair on the back of my head stood up, and I walked back to my car, and about 1 hour later, I saw a cars light coming down the beach towards me, I was relieved that someone was coming. This is all I have seen, it did scare me. Weather Visibility: Clear, Mild, Cloudy, Calm.

Steve and Diane were heading back from the movies approx.... 11.00pm Sat the 21st of October when they noticed a very bright, orange/red, star like object to the North North West.

At first Steve thought it was an incoming plane as he watched it for approx.... 1 to 2 mins from inside the car, then felt that the object was stationary. Steve then stopped the car and continued the observation for another 5 mins or so. During this time the object appeared to hover and dimmed and brightened very quickly, as though pulsing. The object was approx.... 45 degrees above the horizon and approx.... half the size of a pea at arms length between thumb and forefinger. Steve then got back in his car and travelled home, only 1 minute away and continued to observe for another 3 minutes approx..... The object appeared dimmer at this point. Steve then went inside.

The next night at approx.... 10.30pm he looked for the same object with no success. The dimming and brightening may be due to dark cloud invisible to the observer and also scintillation effects. The dark cloud may also explain its apparent non appearance the following night. The only astronomical body in that area was Altair and although it is the 11th brightest star it is unlikely to be reported as a UFO. Also it is more of a yellow colour, not a red. Postscript:
Brian, for your Reference...

There was a spectacular satellite decay over WA on Monday night.

A meteorological observer from the Giles Weather Station (28.03S, 128.3E) saw the object.

It was first seen at an elevation of 35 degrees in the SSW. It moved horizontally and was lost behind trees low in the ENE. It followed a path from the vicinity of Esperance at ~11:42 UTC to pass E of the Giles Meteorological station

Duration about 45s to 1 minute.

I was NORAD object 26581U. A rocket booster from a launch on 21-10-2000.

That should be enough information to determine if the witness saw the same object. Kate Martin ktee@chariot.net.au

This lady stated that she was in bed when she heard her dogs barking and decided to get up to see what all the fuss was. This was around 12.05 am, she hadn’t actually fallen asleep before this anyway as her husband was not feeling well. As she went to look out of her lounge room window she heard a loud noise, she said it was far louder than a helicopter and was definitely not a plane as she has planes going over her house all the time. She lives 35 km South/West of Taree. Mrs Wright then said she saw what looked like two oblong shaped windows in the sky with the inside lights on, she could make out the shape of the craft around it. At the time she walked off to the kitchen and thought it’s just a plane, by the time she got to the kitchen she couldn’t understand why she thought that, so she proceeded to go back to the window. By the time she got there it was gone and the noise had stopped. She stated the noise didn’t even fade out, it just stopped. There are only three farms in her area, no lighting. One of her neighbours heard the noise, but was in bed at the time. Karen Burden AUFORN NSW

AT 6.30pm on Friday 27th October, at Jamboree Heights Brisbane, Mr X saw a bright light in the sky traveling from west to east. Mr X said that it was the size of a star and was traveling very fast in a straight line. It was like a bright white light, it flashed red for about one second as he watched it then it stopped and vanished. The whole incident lasted for about 20 seconds. No noise. He also said it was lower in the sky than a satellite but could have been the same speed. Jan Stone AUFORN QLD

At around 9:30 pm to 9:45 pm on Friday the 27th October Kevin and his wife and her friend observed one giant round orange light 45 degrees coming from the North-West moving across the sky in a South-Easterly direction, towards the ocean. They were standing on their front verandah. They stated the bright light would stop for around a minute every now and then and zig-zag up and down like a heart monitor. It was said that the object would also speed up at times and then slow down again. They actually stated the object was only slightly smaller than a full moon and yes I have verified the size again with them again. This object was very large indeed but was flying lower than the usual craft which fly over this area. Karen Burden AUFORN NSW

Pat who is a lawn mowing contractor was out the front of the house at around 9:50 pm, in and out of his garage cleaning his lawn mowing equipment. He stated he looked up in the sky to find the Southern Cross when he noticed what he thought was a star except for the fact it was moving in a North Westerly direction. He watched it move accross the sky and then noticed another coming from the same direction as the first. After which some minutes later another bright fire orange star like object appeared. He stated he watched these objects move accross the sky for around 45 minutes. He called his Wife and some friends out of the house during this time who also watched these lights for some time. He even had time to phone our 1800 number. These lights accoridng to Pat were heading towards Dubbo/Coonaburrabran.

The time taken for these objects to move accross the sky plus the omission of eratic/ or sudden changes in direction could indicate known phenomina. They were traveling very slow, no noise, seemed to look like they were not moving at times, fire orange star like, just below cloud level, all of which could be an indication of home made balloons.

Pat lost sight of these objects just above cloud level. I am currently checking on wind/weather conditions on that particular night in the area. Karen Burden AUFORN NSW

31.10.00 ADELAIDE (KINGSCOTE), SA 2130-2200hrs
(Source: 1800 Freecall National Hotline Number - Callin Code: 0993 & 1010)
Shape: Round
Size: approx 1 and half times size of a baseball
Objects: Two
Colour: Orange
Sound: NIL
Duration: 7 - 10 mins
Weather conditions: clear night sky - wind from SW
Direction: travelling East from Kingscote, Kangaroo Island towards Adelaide
Witnesses: Peter S. [age 56], his wife [age 46] and 2 unnamed witnesses

Peter and his wife were out on the Kingscote Jetty fishing. There was also a couple 50 metres further down the jetty also fishing.

Peter looked up into the night sky [there had been a brief shower early, but the sky had cleared by the time of the sighting] and then noticed 2 large orange coloured round lights in the sky. They were approx 3,000 to 4,000 feet high. One was travelling approx 1-2 km in front of the second one, but both were travelling on the same course in the same direction eg: [ 0 <-----1/2km-----> 0 ] and both were heading towards Adelaide.

Peter called out to his wife to look up as well, she also witnessed the 2 orange lights. They both agreed that these lights were ‘unusual’ and didnt look like any type of plane. In fact both stated they had ‘never seen anything like this before in their lives’. Peter then grabbed the binoculars that were in his fishing kit to get a better look, he confirmed that they both were ‘orange colour and round in shape’ and that is when he clearly saw that they were travelling one behind the other in a straight line formation.

The other thing that both Peter and his wife noticed, was there was no ‘noise/sound of any sort’. When I asked him what he meant by that, he said: "Well if it was a plane, Cessna/Jet etc you would hear something, they were that big and fairly close, but we heard nothing, absolutely nothing!" I then asked if he or his wife noticed any other ‘cessation of noise’ around them, he said he couldnt remember that, as he and his wife were concentrating on what was happening above them.

As they continued to watch the 2 lights fly over them and onwards towards Adelaide, Peter said that just before they hit the horizon [approx 50kms away], he noticed that the 2nd light sped up, joined the first light, then diverted to the left, before both of them disappeared.

Peter then went over the the other couple who were also on the jetty fishing and said "Did you see that?" They replied "Yes, what was it?" They all spoke about it for a few minutes, before Peter and his wife left. The following day, Peter went around Kingscote township, asking "did anyone see or report some strange lights in the sky last night??", he asked at the local police station, shops, local people. He was amazed that no one had seen anything, that no fishing boats, that he knew were out, as he could see their lights on the water the night before, hadnt reported anything.

During my interview with him, Peter kept on ‘Stressing’ that both him and his wife "Had NEVER seen anything like this before in their lives!" Peter then also came right out and asked me "What was it ??" . I told him, that I could not answer his questions right off, as I would need to do some checking around, eg: Aldinga airport, but he then again ‘stressed’... "It WASNT a plane! ...it just WASNT"! ..... "I know what planes look like/sound like etc, and so does my wife!"

Peter said that this had caused a bit of stress/anxiety for both of them. "In fact, he continued, "Both of us were total disbelieves of anything we read/heard about UFO’s, but now after this event, we dont know what to believe/think anymore".

Peter then asked me what else have people seen in the night sky over Adelaide recently, and I told him about some of the follow ups I had done over the previous 5 months. He seem to relax a bit more after I had spoken to him about those, and again said "I just dont know anymore, this has really shaken me and my wife up, we were adamant disbelieves before now".
