On the 1st January 2001, at the time of 1:07 am, Mr Dorrell walked his mother to his motor vehicle to drive her home after celebrating the fall of the New Year. As Mr. Dorrell approached his motor vehicle, he suddenly noticed three unusually bright globular objects in a NE direction heading S-SW, approximately 15 degrees above the horizon. The objects were described as brilliant, their colour compared to a motor vehicle tail lamp. They were traveling steadily in a "boomerang" formation, as described by the witness. When the objects appeared closer, their apparent distances broadened, indicating a constantly maintained formation. As they neared overhead, the anomalies took a silent westerly turn and gained distance towards the horizon. Before they faded away, the witness observed each individual object to fluctuate in luminosity, similar to a star close to the horizon. Their speed was no different to a conventional aircraft.

Additional notes:
Mr Dorrell first contacted the local paper. As a result, the editor wrote an article called "Peter sees lights" which according to Mr Dorrell flooded the local news group with numerous phone calls from people claiming to have sighted the same phenomenon. One lady in particular contacted Mr Dorrell and told him how she saw a single object split into three!

Mr Dorrell also mentioned a strange occurrence that happened to him a number of years ago. He told me how he and his son were in a truck one late evening travelling home when they passed the same section of road twice! The two shrugged off this "ground hog-day" experience until they heard of an unidentified object sighted in the same area. Mr Dorrell says, "It’s not something that you talk about to other people. Otherwise they’ll think you’re crazy!"

Apparently, Mr Dorrell’s son recorded the event on a camcorder. I asked Mr Dorrell if we could receive a copy of the footage taken. I also offered to pay for the postage. Mr Dorrell informed me that he would talk to his son and have a copy sent off.

Comments:
This case is again compared to the two Albion Park cases (callin code 001056 and 001055/001057) reported in early December, 2000 as well as sightings reported in Bilamby. This case is also compared to a case in Prestons near Liverpool in August 2000, Nowra in June 1999 and Minto also in June 1999.

My question is that is there some kind of military exercise conducted by HMAS Albatross that may lead to a logical explanation to these events? I will be contacting the officer in charge of air control co-ordination, Lieutenant Cana in attempt to find answers. Doug Moffett AUFORN NSW

UPDATE REGARDING THE DECEMBER 2000 & JANUARY 2001 SIGHTINGS
(Source: 1800 Freecall National Hotline Number - Callin Code: 1055 to 1057 & 1103 to 1105)
I’ve contacted HMAS Albatross relating to the matters reported in Callin Codes 01055-01057 and 01103-01105 (See Vol.5 No.4, Pg 35 titled 01.01.01 Ulludulla, NSW 0107hrs (NL)). I spoke to the officer in charge of the aerial command Lieutenant Commander McCalum. The officer did not seem to recall any such incidents reported with in the Navy. However, he did ask for detailed descriptions and the times of the sightings. My details were left with him so that I can be contacted should he obtain any information (I may have high hopes).

I also contacted Wiroolla Police Station where apparently calls were made about strange lights over Bilamby (near Wollongong). Besides speaking to a senior constable who displayed an infantile attitude, I was switched to a regional patrol office where I communicated with a more sensible person. The lady at the office did not disclose her name. However she did inform me that the office has a 1800 number to contact for matters as such. Again I left my details with her so that I can be contacted about this issue. I have not yet received any calls. Attila kaldy UFOSWS

On Saturday night 6.Jan 2001 at 9.28pm he and his mate went to sit outside for a smoke, when they saw a pulsating flashing light coming out of a cloud just over their house. He said it was a low cloud and that no noise could be heard. It was a very bright light, flashing in rhythm that is why he said, he knew it was not lightning. It lasted about a minute, then it stopped. He also said at the same time the Lorikeets that rest in the tree in their garden, went mad, like he had never heard them before, but as soon as the lights stopped flashing they went quite. I also spoke to his mate, who said the other night he was sitting in the garden and felt something watching him, he looked and saw a funny shape moving trying to hide in the trees, he said it was almost blending in with the trees, but when it moved he could make out a funny shape, like a large hat silhouette that you could see through. He said he did not mind telling me he was scared and had trouble sleeping. They will ring us again if anything further happens. Jan Stone AUFORN QLD

Report: "Me and a friend were sitting out the front of his place in a residential area, when out of the corner of my eye I caught a glimpse of a moving object, I then told my friend and pointed at it, because when I saw it out of the corner of my eye I thought it was a plane, we get lots of planes because we are near an airport. This was definitely not a plane, it was very difficult to see the object even though it was a perfectly clear evening. The object was a triangular shape, sort of a blackish brown it seemed partially see through (I know, this is weird) with very dull lights on it possibly blue, on the edge of the craft it was a fair size, from what we could tell, and seemed to be just cruising effortlessly across the sky. It was also quite low."

Unusual: Nothing, apart from the very faint lights.
Location: In a street in a relatively small town on the coast.
Weather conditions: Sky was perfectly clear. Stars were out. Nothing else notable.
Physical stuff: Probably the size of a small house(?) Altitude was about the same as the planes that fly past us that are preparing to land. Maybe 150-200m? Speed was about 80-90 knots estimate.
Duration: 20 seconds. Doug Moffett UFORNSW

A couple were heading home to St Clare after church at around 9 pm when they saw an orange "balloon" like object rising up from a residents back yard. The object steadily ascended. It then stopped at a high altitude and then headed west at a faster pace.

I am more inclined to believe that the encounter was actually a balloon illuminated by either luminous chemical lights or even a fire lantern used in certain ceremonies in south eastern Asia. The lady witness did say that the object looked very much like a balloon. However it’s behavior made it suspicious.

It is quite possible that when the balloon reached a certain altitude, it’s lack of pressure caused it to stop. It’s temporary stability may have been due to a draft free environment, only then being pushed west by sudden wind sheer.

The witness also wanted to know if there were other reports made in the same area. Attila Kaldy UFOSWS

Joan stated that on every full moon she would be visited by aliens and sometimes was implanted with crystals, that she believed facilitated healing and greater intuition within. I spoke to Joan re what little I knew about implants and she discussed the various locations these were placed. She stated that her husband (who is psychic) was able to locate the positions these were placed in her body and the colour of them etc.

Joan talked about the different races of E.T.s and I talked to her about A.C.E.R.N. and how it was available if she need to share experiences or just talk to someone. She was quite happy to just ‘talk’ on the phone and expressed a desire to meet over a coffee. AUFORN QLD

On 10th January, 2001, at the approximate time of 10:50 pm, Paul and his wife decided to sit out in their back yard to breath some fresh evening air, after a hot summers day. Not long after, Paul noticed a bright light traveling from the east towards the west at a constant pace. At first he thought it was a commercial aircraft, but when it stopped in mid air he immediately ruled that theory out. Paul asked for his wife’s attention and pointed to the unusual anomaly. Just when the helicopter theory was about to be announced, the object ascended in a 90-degree angle and attempted to stabilize itself at a much higher altitude. However this did not happen, as the object’s stability became erratic-it maneuvered back and fourth like a ping-pong ball. At this stage, Paul and his wife were at the edge of their seats. But the 20-minute encounter show was about to come to an end as the object accelerated at an unbelievable speed and disappeared between two bright stars in the NW region of the night sky (either between Jupiter and Saturn or between Jupiter and Aldebaran).

Additional notes:
During the event, there was no sound produced by the unidentified object. The colour of the anomaly was described as a whitish yellow with an aurora surrounding it. According to the witness, when the object accelerated there was a secondary light produced behind it. This may have been some kind of propulsion after burn.

The night was clear with no other air traffic within the immediate area. Doug Moffett AUFORN NSW

Duration: Light was followed for 10 mins, watched (stationary) for 5 mins +
Position and Location: First noticed while travelling between Caboolture and Bellmere, via car. Stopped car past Bellmere to watch carefully.
Appearance: 1 bright light, yellowish in colour, 10 x brighter than surrounding stars.
Behaviour: maintained same height and travelled steadily in one direction - heading past Bellmere, height was roughly the same used by light aircraft flight path and close to same speed. while caller was stationary, object was observed (gum tree used as guide) and seen move behind the leaves of the said tree, light changed direction and began to head back towards Caboolture. Caller used mobile 5 mins, light appeared stationary in this time frame. Caller lost sight of light during return trip to Caboolture and was not visible when returned to the area within the hour.

There was no sound associated with the sighting. Surrounding area was rural.

Caller states her brother witnessed a similar event approx 3 weeks (on the Wednesday) prior at around the same time. Caller logically rationalised all aspects of the sighting, discounting satellite, meteor or ‘shooting star’ and venus. She considers it may have been a light plane, although it is slightly off the normal path for the area. Rita Robb AUFORN QLD

She was on the balcony of her unit at around 11.30 pm on the 20th January with her daughter and niece. It was a clear night when they saw one bright orange light which appeared to be hovering for a few minutes, then another came into view, this one overtook the other and headed in a North-West direction. She stated they looked like they were on fire and were glowing. No sound could be heard. She was uncertain as to their height. She did not see where they came from.

I noted however that they were not far from the industrial area where the Penrith hoax incidents took place early 2000. This incident seemed very similar to those of last year. I have asked her to call me on my mobile if she sees the same incident again. I am only fifteen minutes away. Karen Burden AUFORN NSW

Douglas, his son and his daughter-in-law were travelling from Edwardstown, a suburb of Adelaide, up to the Rodeo at Berri. Due to car trouble they had ended up starting out late for their trip, that is why they were on the road at such an early hour of the morning.

Just passing Waikerie and approx half way to Bamera, Douglas spotted what he originally thought to be a ‘falling star’. But then adds, " This was NO normal ‘falling star’". Douglas at the time, was driving approx 80 - 100 km along the road and stated that during the time of the sighting, 2 - 3 mins, the object was always in front of the car.

The sky that night clear with only half a moon and the surrounding countryside was dark, when Douglas spotted the ‘falling star’. He noticed that it was dropping too slowly for normal and as it was dropping, it was getting bigger and brighter. The ‘star’ shaped object just stopped and then changed in colour to a ‘beautiful blue’, its shape also changed from ‘star’ shape to a ‘cylindrical’ shape with blue sparks coming out of the end of it.

Once it had completely stopped moving, Douglas states that all of sudden the whole country side was lit up with a brilliant white light! He and his passengers could clearly see trees, houses and stock in the paddocks! Then as soon as it had completed its colour/shape change, the light went out, it was pitch black again and it just disappeared.

Upon arrival at the Rodeo in Berri, Douglas asked around if anyone else had seen anything on their way there. Some people said "Oh yes, I think we saw a comet" . To which Douglas replied " This was NO comet I saw"!

Douglas also said that during the time of the sighting, he and his son/daughter-in-law where not scared, just amazed at what they had seen. Charmaine Ballam AUFORN SA

20.01.01 MODBURY AREA (HOLDEN HILL NORTH), SA 0020hrs
(Source: 1800 Freecall National Hotline Number - Callin Code: 1149)
Anna with her husband William and friends Daniella and Romeo, were all sitting outside Thursday night skywatching due to the warm weather. During the couple of hours that they were outside, they had searched and found planets, satellites and a shooting star.

Anna was the first person to spot this ‘unusual light’ in the sky. As she sat and watched it, it grew bigger, she then mentioned to her husband/friends "Hey take a look at that"! Her husband and friends then started to say, "Oh that could be....planet/satellite/plane etc" [Parafield Airport is not far from where Anna lives] but Anna, said: " No No! its not that, look at what’s it doing"!

I asked Anna to describe what she and the others saw.

Anna: It was a bright Orange orb, it would be bright then dim, bright then dim, it kept on doing that over and over again.
Charmaine: So, like a ‘pulsing effect’? Whilst you where watching it, was it travelling?
Anna: Yes, it was travelling slowly towards the North, all the time it was dimming then brightening. I also noticed that as it travelled, it kept on slowly dropping lower in the sky.
Charmaine: How long did you and the others observe it?
Anna: We all observed it for approx 15 mins, when this amazing thing happened... it did a ‘Nose Dive’ and disappeared! But that is not all!
Charmaine: Please go on.
Anna: Well of course once it disappeared we all sat around talking about it, going again through all the possibilities it could have been, but we still could not make ourselves believe it was a plane/planet/satellite and so forth. Then approx 10 mins later it was BACK! It just appeared in EXACTLY the same position I first saw it! and again it was doing that pulsating thing, dimming/brightening. Also, this time it was travelling in the reverse direction, North to South, where before when I first spotted it, it was travelling North. Another strange thing as well, this time it zipped acrossed the sky, then stopped, hovered, zipped back to where it was first, stopped then hovered, then started to slowly cross the sky travelling South, then like the first time, it just did a ‘nose dive’ and disappeared!
Charmaine: So in total how long did you sight this object ?
Anna: I would say approx 30 mins in total.
Charmaine: During all of this, did it ever stop ‘pulsing’...dimming/brightening?
Anna: NO..it kept that up all the time, that is what caught my eye in the beginning, how it looked like a star or planet, the fact how it was such a bright, ‘extremely’ brilliant orange in colour and how it would dim, then brighten etc.
Anna: After I had phoned your Hotline, I also called the Parafield Airport, but since it was closed, the call was diverted to Adelaide Airport. The person I spoke to was ‘unhelpful’ to say the least.
Charmaine: Did you hear any sound, how far up in the sky do you think it was and how
big ?
Anna: No, we didnt hear any sound from it, it was quite high up in the sky, as like I said before, I first thought it was a star or planet.

I asked a couple more questions, such as had they been drinking whilst sitting outside skywatching, to which Anna said, NO, only coffee. I thanked Anna for her report. She then asked me had there been any other reports of something in the sky that night, to which I replied as far as I know ‘No’. Anna also told me that she and her husband do quite a bit of skywatching and that if she ever saw anything again, she would again contact us. Charmaine Ballam AUFORN SA

Report: "At approx..... 2.10am myself and another family member noticed about 8 bright lights dancing in the sky, not making any particular pattern or formation. We disregarded for a few seconds thinking it might be a light show, but then realising the time and then noticing no beam of light projecting this image from the direction of the earth but rather it appearing to be project from behind the clouds. The lights appeared to move around from one point to another, say 10-15kms, in seconds (if that) then stopped and hovered for a few minutes at a time before moving around again. We then noticed a much larger, brighter light from behind some clouds. Suddenly the 8 lights seemed to zoom, some 30kms, into the this light joined by another 20 or more which seemed only visible at 5-10km range around the bigger light and within 2 seconds they scattered from this light and spread out again to dance and hover at 2-3 minutes intervals. This went on for about 1/2 hour and then the lights again zoomed into the clouds. We did see a helicopter at one point during this sighting. We noticed that in terms of altitude that these lights must have been at least 2-3 times as high."

Unusual: There were no sounds and the objects were glowing white.
Location: We were in Five Dock and the lights seemed to dance and hover about what seemed to us to be Five Dock/Drummoyne/Balmain/City and the bigger light appeared to hover highest and above the City.
Weather conditions: Grey night, white cloud cover.
Physical stuff: I think that the dancing and hovering lights were perhaps, say as big as a standard house and the bigger light was about 20 times larger. They seemed to travel in seconds, a distance of 10-15kms.

Santi and her husband live near Montville at the Sunshine Coast. Whilst sitting outside at lunchtime on a mattress feeding her baby Santi observed a bright star-like object in the sky. She observed the object to be the same colour as a star but much brighter and assumed it was a plane. The object appeared stationery and appeared to flash for approx. 10 minutes and then after a further 30 minutes vanished. Santi wasn’t sure if it was a satelite but didn’t think it was a plane etc.

After reading the Manly Daily Gwen thought she would phone to tell of her experience which took place in late January 2001. She was resting on her bed for 10 minutes before visitors were due to arrive, it was 1.40 pm in the afternoon and her son was watching sports on TV in the lounge room. All of a sudden she said the floor started shaking and she could hear a noise which sounded like the sound barrier was being broken. She tried to get out of bed but couldn’t, she noticed a bright light outside of her window. Gwen lives on the second floor of a block of units and her bedroom window faces the side of the building, where a driveway is situated. A garage is under her unit. She stated the orb which appeared as a bright yellow light was actually a grey metalic lace looking ball underneath the light which had sharp points or spikes on it. The object she said was only about a foot in diameter, was hovering about 12 feet from the ground and around 8 feet from her window. She said it seemed to make an electrical sound whilst hovering and stayed there for a number of minutes. Her son at this stage was still in the lounge room and could not move either, he heard the noises etc but could not get up to see to his mother. Gwen mentioned that there was a red light illuminating from the top of the orb and a green type trail coming from bottom of the object. After the event both of them felt very week as if they had no energy left. Karen Burden AUFORN NSW
