The R.A.A.F. yesterday asked people who have seen mysterious lights over Sydney for detailed reports.

An R.A.A.F spokesman made the appeal. He said the reports of the strange lights were “most interesting and peculiar.”

“But the Air Force cant investigate these reports until we sift them for ourselves” he added. He said the R.A.A.F. would not order an air search for the lights until there was something to work on.”

“We would be wasting time sending up a plane on the off chance of seeing one of these lights.”

The spokesman said eye- witnesses could send reports of the lights to the Department of Civil Aviation. Sydney, or R.A.A.F. Headquarters, Penrith. Last night Mr. N. Strachan, of Katoomba, electrical engineer of Blue Mountains City Council, said he had seen a strange light towards Sydney. He telephoned radio station 2KA about the light, which he noticed from his home about 5.50 p.m. yesterday.

Other people in the Blue Mountains and residents of Balmain, Rockdale, Ryde, Mascot, Bankstown, Puchbowl and Terrigal, said they had seen strange lights over their districts early last night.
