Simon Harvey-Wilson was born in Hong Kong in 1951, attended high school in Sydney, and obtained his BA (with majors in psychology and philosophy) at the Australian National University in Canberra.

Simon has a Diploma of Photography, and in 2001 completed an MA degree at Edith Cowan University in Perth, Western Australia, with a thesis entitled "Shamanism and Alien Abductions: A Comparative Study". This research discovered numerous similarities between the experiences of alien abductees and shamans from all over the world. For example, many members of both groups appear to develop various paranormal abilities, especially healing (see Simon’s "Shamanism and Alien Abductions" article in the Australian Journal of Parapsychology, Dec 2001, Vol.1, No.2).

Simon is currently doing an Interdisciplinary PhD on "Human Levitation" at Edith Cowan University.

Simon is on the committee of the "Australasian Society for Psychical Research" (ASPR) which gives public lectures in Perth on ufology and the paranormal. ASPR is interested in the paranormal aspects of the UFO phenomenon which many other ufologists seem to ignore. Simon is the WA representative of MUFON (Mutual UFO Network), an American organisation that investigates UFO reports and which publishes the monthly MUFON UFO Journal, one of the world’s leading ufology magazines. Simon’s articles published in the MUFON UFO Journal are "UFOS, Consciousness and Non-locality" (Jan 1995, No.321) and "Similarities Found Between Shamanism and Abductions" (Aug 2001, No.400).

Simon has given numerous public lectures and radio interviews on research into UFOs, consciousness and the paranormal, and has had articles published in Exposure Magazine, Hard Evidence and The Australasian Ufologist. Simon spoke about "Close Encounters, Consciousness and the Paranormal" at the Australian International UFO Symposium in Brisbane (Oct 1997), and at the UFO Research (NSW) Sydney Conference (Sept 1998).

From 1995 to 1998 Simon taught a Community Adult Education evening class called "UFO Studies" or "UFOs & the Paranormal" at several Technical & Further Education (TAFE) centres in Perth, WA.
