Hello Diane,

This is the first of three pics supplied to us by Whittlesea Council. The pictures were taken in the same sequence I will send them to you in, at about 2pm last Thursday. This one has the possible UFO in it. The other two will follow.

The council staff did not see anything at the scene... they only noticed it after the took the photos. If you could give me a call with your feedback I would be most grateful. Thanks for your help.

Regards,
Peter Taylor

The object appears to be solid with some kind of contrail -feathering?
Additional explanation ( Feathering - meaning Feathers of a bird? )

which is noticeable at the top center of the object somewhat like a vapor trail or fuzzing.
Additional explanation ( Fuzzing - close to the camera? )

The impression of the objects trajectory appears to be traveling towards the camera.
Additional explanation ( traveling towards the camera - solid object? )

Its Shape appears half moon a nd the object appears to be flying upside down.?
Additional explanation ( Its Shape appears half moon - only half a circle? )

The time of day which the object was photographed from my observation of shadows on the ground located under the railway signs would be between 12.00hrs to 14.00hr approximately?

Peter the object is interesting and well worth another look however we would need a copy of the photo at an higher resolution 300 or 600 dpi.

What is it,? it is an Unidentified Flying Object a UFO until it is identified.

If possible we would like to talk to Mr Roland re the photo. as we need more details re the camera - time of day - location.

Just for your records it is very hard to totally rule out a terrestrial object such as a bird. Digital camera's are great for making something look other than what it is due to pixel manipulation when capturing the image especially if the object is moving.

Please take a look at this page http://www.hypermax.net.au/~auforn/Gold_Coast.html Hope this can help

The City of Whittlesea has released a press item and photograph on a UFO Photograph taken by an employer at 2:00pm on the 15th Jan 2004.

The Council communication officer spoke on radio station 3AW at 11:35 today vouching for the employee and the image authenticity.

PRA viewed the image on Tue 20th and could not offer any explanation to reporter Peter Taylor taylorp@ldr.newsltd.com.au from the Whittlesea Leader, a local newspaper who will be running the story.

Hi Ron

There are! number of explanations as to what the object could be. A plane or a bird stooping, dust or dirt on the lens of the camera, a bug captured close up while flying by?. Ron we can not discount some of the obvious explanations as you know. However in saying this it is going to be very difficult to positively identify this object as the picture is all there is.

Please take a look at this image on the AUFORN webpage as a slight comparison to the Whittlesea image.

Same conditions NO one saw the object it just appeared after the photo was taken.

Hi Diane,

Ron and the rest are scattered, it's been a busy day, however, like you the 'Bird Theory' was the one we liked. We examined the area and had a good look for birds etc and on further examination of the image I think (?) I can eliminate that possibility. It was (?) our main candidate.

In general no problems with the camera, bugs, dirt, hoax, aircraft are all negative.

What ever it is... it is moving very fast, the shutter speed of the digital camera was set to auto. But it was an open sky setting so we think it was around 1/2000 sec.

If this is confirmed and we need to look into this a little more, then it was moving very fast. We have to do some more measurement work at the location.

I agree, I don't think we will get a clear explanation with this one.

And the Gold Coast image is very close... interesting I wonder id anyone has copy of the original (full) digital image? But they do have common elements.

Regards John

We have had a couple of this kind ufo pictures here in Finland too and I believe the object in this Australian photograph might be a bird; the object is oval-shaped, bird-coloured, lighter above than below and it might be bird-sized. Also the photographer did not see anything unusual while taking the picture, he would not call attention to a plain bird as he might have done if he would have seen something unusual. Only my humble opinion...
